For Every BODY

Beginners are encouraged to attend our sessions. Whatever your body type of ability our goal is to meet you where you are. While unless clearly stated we are on the floor or mat, you can choose to participate in the chair. This is your practice, there is never any pressure to do the poses as demonstrated, get in where you fit it. Because this is community yoga you may even hear snoring as you grunt. All are welcome.

My Story

I started doing yoga by watching videos on VHS tapes. I was sure I was doing it right because I hadn’t felt the miraculous effects that everyone talked about but I incorporated the stretches into my exercise and kept it moving.
I saw signs at the local library for yoga classes and decided to attend. My first teacher, Vonita, was a thin focused Black woman. She called out positions from the front of the room demonstrating the movement and then talking about the benefits of each. I listened to her and the others in the room as many struggled to get into or hold the position she made look easy. It was the grunts, moans, tumbles and surrender that made it feel like community to me. All that time I spent and still spend in doing yoga alone made me realize the benefits and beauty of a shared practice.
